Marcel Crespo (son of ex-convict Mario Crespo) with his ex-gal Phil. STAR's Celine Lopez and DJ

BEWARE... DJ Montano is at it again!

(A now very familiar name is bannered in Chapter 3, by Amrican scholar John Sidel...The rise and fall of former Senator Justianiano Montano ( DJ’s grandfather ) is a story of political murders, warlordism, criminal activities, corruption and his “skillful exploitation and manipulation of the law. Montano's editor Celine Lopez hails from the wealthy Lopez clan. But unlike the Montano family (whose brutish ways were legendary) , Celine's family were able to stage a political and economic comeback, using the practice of rent-seeking...”)

Former Philippine Star columnist, Delfin DJ Montano continues harassing bloggers ( especially Brian Gorrell) by hiring a “law firm” that go by the address, www.cybertriallawyer.com , to go after Brian Gorell.

It seems that Brian and his blog caused damage on the supposedly "good reputation” of their client who according to them is an “outstanding citizen” (whether DJ is a citizen of the US or the Philippines was not defined by the said "law firm")!

Victorina decided to post the lawyer’s letter if only to tell DJ Montano that BRIAN GORELL is not alone in this fight; and WE are behind Brian’s quest to retrieve the sums of money taken from him by Montano.

DJ Montano already had a long history of "shady business deals" gone awry. Yet, he was protected by his print media associates- particularly his editor in the Philippine Star, Celine Lopez. We are aware of the complexity of this issue. We know this will take time and so much of our energy. One thing is sure…

We will not stop until Brian gets his justice!

Celine Lopez poses for the recently released UNO Mgazine

Trixie says…Montano, that paragon of virtue and fiscal responsibility has struck again, this time he hired a new set of US based lawyers who go by the web address www.cybertriallawyer.com . These lawyers have sent a demand letter to Bryan, through his mother, under false pretenses -- they pretended to be a company looking to hire him.
It appears to be Montano's intention to put the scare on by sending a letter demanding that Bryan desist from what they deem as defamatory statements made in the latter's blog.

We would be scared if it weren't so funny.

The Philippines' most famous disappearing act since Dewey Dee wants to sue the HIV positive man he is alleged to have swindled -- a man Montano himself has tried to destroy, physically, spiritually, financially, and yes, repeatedly. Montano, who cannot even show his face in the Philippines -- land of his birth and cradle of his not-so noble family -- who fears lawsuits in his own country, attempts to file suit under the relative anonymity his own lawyers offer to him.
Come out of the wooodwork, DJ. By letting it be known that you are represented, we can sue you back, too. Come out, come out wherever you are.

Amiel says: Magic 89.9 was the very first traditional media to bravely air the case of Brian Gorrell. I touched base with Brian Gorrell with the help of a Philippine Daily Inquirer senior writer. Afterwards, several death threats and demand letters were sent to Magic 89.9 by the DJ Montano camp! One of the threats that was whispered to a Magic account executive said “mag-ingat na lalo na yang baklang yan” (that faggot should especially be careful). If the threats were just thrown at me, I wouldn't care much less. I eat them for breakfast. At the same time, Montano family lawyer, Atty. Jose Oliveros sent a letter to both the KBP and Magic 89.9 even quoting Tim Yap as an example repeatedly and using Tim’s name repeatedly in the lawyer’s discussion. DJ Montano and his Gucci Gang posse committed grave injustice to Gorrell. Indeed, the declaration of demagogues is set in stone. But when they stumble and fall into disgrace, their alibis are all for naught.

Boldstar says...When I was told that Bryan's mom was deceived to gain access to Bryan’s whereabouts, I formed the opinion that DJ Montano is utterly hopeless. I have always believed that people can redeem themselves and would want to be good to others because it is in our nature as human beings to be greater than what we are. What we have become can be overcome by doing good things. Sending a cease and desist letter is not an act of goodwill but a declaration of one's hubris and delusions. It is better for one’s soul to accept that you have done others wrong and allow yourself to heal by making an honest effort to rectify, redeem and reimburse whatever the deed that caused trauma to another. At least repay Bryan slowly because doing such is really not an admission that you are guilty, if you are happier not to admit deceiving him. That would be your own burden which in time you'd want to be released from. At most, say sorry for hurting someone because thats how you eliminate the shadows of your past hauting and taunting you till kingdom come. Otherwise you have the Victorina Brigade to deal with.

Patrick Reyno, suspect DJ Montano and self-proclaimed architect Chut Cuervo

Rain says.... I leave it to Atty. Trixie to discuss the legal merits of this letter and the demands it cites. I am confident that Amiel and the rest of the council will eat DJ Montano for breakfast if he will show a sign of his receding hairline. I am more concerned about you Brian. Your health seems to be, shall I say, moving into an interesting phase. Letters from lawyers like this are at best intimidation tactics. And I hope you don't give in to the temptation to feel depressed, or angry, or afraid. That is what DJ wants to do -- destroy your wellness, distract you from your task of staying healthy and fighting for your rights.

He is a bitch, we all know that. He destroyed you once. Don't let him destroy you again. This letter is nothing but trash.

I would ask him.

“Daaahling, it’s fashion! What else?” he would scoff, blowing smoke at my face.

“Pasyon? Anong pasyon-pasyon yan? Eh para kang koreanong lukaret na may stuff toy sa damit? Sino ka? Si Hello Kitty???”

“You are sooooo fashionably unaware!” Tim would laugh, swirling around his wineglass filled with free booze.

    “Eh ikaw naman mukhang mongoloid!”

    “Swine!”

    “Koreanong bakla!”

Kami naman ni Celine Lopez, magiging BFF’s. Kaso, I would always have this feeling na may tinatago siya sa akin.

    Coming out of the bathroom:

I would say, “Girl, antagal mo naman sa loob ng banyo! Um-ebs ka ba?

Celine would giggle in a high-pitched tone, and shake her bony head, “Hell no! The comfort rooms here are heinous!”

I would notice some white powder on my bestfriend Celine’s nose, “Girl, may Johnson’s baby powder ka pa sa ilong mo. Grabe ka namang magpowder!”

Bestfriend Celine would then hurriedly take out her compact and check out her nose, “Oh fudge! Umm… yeah, sure, this is just baby powder… it’s totally not cocaine.” She would hastily wipe her nose clean.

“Ate, bakit parang pinapawisan ka?” I would ask, concerned, also taking note how her cheekbones seem to be protruding way too much.

“Ummm… it’s the music here, sweetheart! It makes my blood just pump like crazy! You know, like, CRAZY!!!” Celine would then start dancing like a possessed blender in the middle of the already cramped Embassy dance floor, “Whoooo! Shit! Life is fuckin’ good, bitches!”

I would hurriedly approach her, a little bit embarrassed by her behavior, “Girl, uso ba ang mood swings sa pamilya nyo?”

Celine would ignore me, grinding her hips against some foreigner’s crotch.

“Huuy, ano ba? Ang kati-kati mo! Umuwi na tayo! Bilis, baka mamaya wala na tayong aircon bus na maabutan, puro ordinary na lang, magwewet na naman yang kilikili mo sa init, sige ka,” I would start pulling on her arm.

Bestfriend Celine would just pull her arm away and scold me, “Quit it, sister! You’re, like, totally making me, like, crash!! Am just trying to have a little fun! Don’t be such a party pooper!”

She would then start French-kissing the foreigner she’s dancing with, as I back slowly away from her, confused and appalled by my bestfriend’s behavior. Que horror, I would whisper, que horror...

    ATTENTION : Isaac G. Belmonte
    Editor-in-Chief

SUBJECT : Mr. Anton R. Mendoza is Neither Registered nor
Licensed to Practice the Regulated Profession of
    Architecture

    Dear Sirs/ Mesdames,

Warm greetings from the Professional Regulatory Board of
Architecture (“PRBoA”). The PRBoA is the entity, under the
Professional Regulation Commission (“PRC”, a quasi-judicial and
quasi-legislative body), tasked with the implementation and
enforcement of Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9266, otherwise known as The
Architecture Act of 2004 (effective 10 April 2004), its implementing
rules and regulations or IRR (effective 01 December 2004) and its
    derivative regulations.
Today, the attention of the reconstituted PRBoA was called in
regard to your publication’s 12 June 2007 feature on the supposed
    architectural work/s by a non-registered and non-licensed person
going by the name of Anton R. Mendoza, referred to as an “architect”
on page C-9 of the said issue (reference Attachment 1).
Please be advised that per the attached 13 March 2007
certification issued by the PRC (reference Attachment 2), Mr. Anton
    R. Mendoza appears to be neither registered nor licensed to practice
architecture in the Philippines. Mr. Mendoza may therefore be held
liable for the illegal practice of architecture under R.A. No. 9266.
Likewise, please be advised that the title of “architect” under R.A.
9266 (and even under its predecessor laws R.A. No. 1581 of 1956 and
R.A. No. 545 of 1950) is a legal title bestowed only on individuals
who are registered and licensed by the state to engage in the
practice of the regulated profession of architecture. Currently,
there are only 23,000 architects registered by the PRC.

In your future editions, please have your writers (such as Mr.
Pepper Teehankee, author of the subject article) to verify fully
with the person/s they will be featuring as architect/s if such
individuals are indeed registered and licensed to practice
architecture in the Philippines. Your writers may ask for their PRC
identification card/s as proof of registration and validity of
license (and please have them take note of the registration number,
the expiry date/s and the regulated profession stated) i.e. the PRC
identification card must be one for architects and not for any other
    regulated profession.

In the case of foreign architects your writers will feature
(including former Filipinos), they can ask for the temporary or
special permit issued by the PRC, allowing such individuals to
practice architecture in the country for a limited period. In the
case of architectural firms your writers will feature, please have
them ask for the firm’s SEC registration to confirm if seventy five
percent (75%) of the architectural firm’s ownership and management
are held by registered and licensed architects.
Otherwise, you may readily inquire from or secure a
certification from the PRC Registration Division or from the SEC (in
the case of firms) to fully ascertain the professional status of
    such persons (natural or juridical).
Under R.A. No. 9266, the registered and licensed architect/s
or other regulated professionals who performed architectural
functions/ services for Mr. Mendoza, may also be held
administratively and/or criminally liable for aiding and abetting
    the practice of a non-registered and non-licensed person/ architect
    (such as Mr. Mendoza).

Brian Gorrell Brouhaha: 15 Questions Korina Sanchez Should Have Asked DJ Montano

    1) Were you and Brian Gorrell lovers (as opposed to “friends”)?

    2) You said the money Brian sent you was for the “bills.” Brian said he lived on Boracay only for a few months. Even if we assume that the monthly upkeep was 100,000 pesos and let’s assume that Brian spent that amount each month for one year — that’s still short of the nearly 3,000,000 that he claimed he sent you over several months. What happened to the rest of the money?

    3) Did you tell Brian that Marcel Crespo and Celine Lopez had promised to invest in the restaurant that, according to Brian, you and he were going to put up?

    4) Did you resign from the Philippine Star or were you fired?

    5) Have you ever used your position as a writer of the Philippine Star to gain favors, such as free hotel accommodations, as alleged?

    6) Did you use your position in the Philippine Star to send the police to Brian’s hotel room that night that you had a fight and, allegedly, you cleaned out his safety deposit box?

    7) What other sources of income did you have in order to support such a lifestyle? Allegedly, your businesses folded up but you were always in Boracay, which can be quite expensive. So if you were not using Brian’s money, as you claim, where were you deriving your income? Does the Philippine Star pay so well so as to afford such a lifestyle?

Korina Sanchez interviewing socialite and alleged scammer DJ Montano. (ANC photograb)

8.) Why would an HIV-positive man, who sold his property in Australia to be with you in the Philippines and who requires expensive medication in order to survive, squander all that money just to live like a king, as you and your stepfather put it? If he did, did it ever occur to you to stop him, knock some sense into him?

    9) Is it true that you also owe other people money and that, as alleged by Brian, you also scammed these people?

    10) Is it true that your mother, as reported by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, was involved in the PEA-Amari scam?

    11) As a socialite, you live such a public life. You open your life up to the public the moment you allow your name and your picture to appear regularly in the papers. How can you claim privacy now? I mean, if you value privacy, why flaunt your lifestyle?

    12) Don’t you think that far from Brian being the one insulting Filipinos, the sins that you allegedly committed have done far worse damage to the image of our country and our people?

    13) You claim that Brian is just using his blog to extort money from you. Normally, an extortion act goes like this: the extortionist calls up the, uh, extortionee and demands that if the extortionee doesn’t pay up, he will expose the skeletons in your closet. In his blog, Brian has exposed so much dirt about you that it would make a fertilizer factory extremely happy. Why would he risk his chances of not getting that money from you, if indeed it was extortion?

    14) And if indeed it was extortion, why threaten to sue him with libel and defamation, and not extortion or some such related crime?

    15) You claim that you came out because you felt the issue had gotten out of hand. Weren’t you concerned that by coming out, you are doing exactly what Brian wanted — lend his story some credibility? Before this, people actually thought this was just a person seeking attention. By coming out now, by confirming essentially Brian’s story, you’ve just added fuel to the fire. Now, the mainstream press — which exerts far more influence than all the blogs put together (contrary to their delusions that they can now change the world) and which had protected your identity for so long — can write about this without NOT mentioning you or bleeping your name.

Who advised you to come out?

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Dionisio Santiago told lawmakers that the Embassy Super Club at The Fort in Taguig City was among the places where the so-called “Alabang Boys” supposedly peddled illegal drugs.
“I’m sorry I have to mention Embassy. They are the suppliers of Embassy,” Santiago told a hearing of the House committee on dangerous drugs. The committee was looking into allegations of attempted bribery to seek the release of three young drug suspects belonging to well-off families in Metro Manila. Santiago said that if top-rank suppliers of drugs were to be described as “four stars”—that is of high caliber—the young men were equal to “three stars.”

Erwin Romulo wrote...“Evil is organic. The fight against it is what makes us human.” Celine Lopez has just come back from Delhi. Meeting up with her, it isn’t long—five minutes probably—before the conversation turns to the usual things: sickness, art, politics, fascists, Bowie, pornography, and the devil—the dark stuff.

The remark was her answer to the question if she thought evil existed.

It seemed apt only because it was also posed to both Barack Obama and John McCain during the last US election. If it’s good enough for presidential candidates, then it was good enough to ask Celine. In fact, for the brevity and wit alone, she gets my vote.

We’ve known each other for several years now, actually. Both of us had columns in The Philippine Star: she was its new rising star, and I was its resident ogre...

Gibbs Cadiz, who so far had given the more intelligent take on this phenomenon, captured these events in a phrase: the attack of the jologs.

Just check on the comment section of the website and you will be further be lured to peep in thru the leaks of the fortress that we call "high society". Many of the sosyal betrays another sosyal. And many of the jologs can write in good English-they just cannot afford a Balenciaga bag and had begrudgingly settled for Heartstrings or Cose. So this is their time for revenge.

So, this is the revenge really. A revolution. And this is not bloody as Marx expected. In fact, there is something saccharinely sadistic in all of it–something enjoyable for all of us closet and out-and-out gossipmongers.

This is something you love to be at the sidelines and watch the fortress crumble into pieces. Or man torn by lions, if you are that violent.

But I am not. So I will say, shaking the high Blahnik heels the socialites among us wear. Or Tim Yap, if he ever wears one.

But I also believe in what Gibbs said in his blog. Many people will eventually get tired of it. The perfumed set will party and the masa will still watch Wowowee.

  106. Good work referencing John Sidel, who must be the world authority on Justiniano Montano. Part of Sidel's work (he is a political scientist) focuses on "big men" and warlords as a feature of Asian political societies.
Small correction: Sidel is American, not British, although he has been based at SOAS in London since the early 90's. I went to high school with him in New Hampshire, and he lived at my Sy-Quia apartment in the years he was doing his fieldwork. He speaks excellent Cebuano and pretty decent Tagalog, and was a fan of Parokya ni Edgar, among others.
