The Ombudsman of Thieves

By: Boldstar

When thieves start to fight amongst themselves, sooner or later somehow justice will be served. That is karma. That is how I am going to keep my sanity -- by believing that in the not so distant future, like tomorrow, justice will come like locusts swarming the honeyed fields of corruption and thuggery. Because the overpriced, over-hyped, over - everything ZTE scandal absolved Gloria and her husband.

The alleged dramatis personae of this most obvious thievery escaped with not a feather ruffled, like magic in Las Vegas. What are you expecting? I am sure everyone reading this is smart enough to realize that in the kingdom that is the Arroyo administration everyone is a national artist, every unsuccessful con is a business failure, and every thief is innocent. So who is guilty anyway? Is it the thief who allegedly refused the bribe? Or is it the other thief who offered the bribe? And how many thieves are there in the house? Or is it just a houseful of thieves who knew nothing of the other thief’s thievery because all are engrossed in their own little kingdoms of thieves.

Does it really matter? Well the answer lies on one’s ability to comprehend the impact of corruption in a country besieged with problematic institutions bathing in the sunshine of hopelessness. It really doesn’t matter whether the First Gentleman or Mrs Arroyo is guilty or not, and that the Office of the Ombudsman negated on its higher responsibility to see that justice is done. The system is already in place to bring favorable outcomes to what this administration wants. Everyone seemed to play his part in making certain that the status quo smells not of pig’s shit but of pig shit dipped in Jo Malone.

What I am scared about are the hidden pig shits successfully hidden for now. Yes, overseas. In the future they will waft through the nostrils of the nation; by that time the pig shit would be transformed into Yamashita treasures like Imelda and Ferdinand’s gold reserves. One cannot repudiate that the Office of the Ombudsman is highly suspect because its independence had been tarnished by the connection of its appointed head. In fact, Merceditas Gutierrez would rather have a whiplash than entertain the notion that mounting evidence presented before her are of corruption. Let’s recall the Kalayaan Power Plant rehabilitation scandal which allegedly made Hernani Perez and Family multimillionaires. And the Comelec Modernization Scam? It starred Abalos allegedly sucking the blooded funds with Mega Pacific eSolutions for ACM’s (automated counting machines). The machines where meant to count votes not kickbacks. In fact, the Supreme Court directed the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate criminal liability of the public officials involved. A couple of years since the 2004 Supreme Court direction, the Ombudsman declared that no “iota of evidence” is found to declare the 5 member Comelec bidding committee guilty of criminal and administrative offenses ( http://www.petitiononline.com/resignow/petition.html ).

At that time I signed a petition because it was a slap in the face of what is just and moral. I see the actions then of the Ombudsman as brazen and obscene considering it is an institution meant to uphold all things that are good in a democracy. Since that time, I believed that the system is clearly flawed and engineered to avoid the balance and checks a democratic process ensured.

It is still true to this day. With every major scandal involving billions of public money, it seems no one is guilty in this kingdom of Ate Gloria.

    BRAVO VICTORINA

The title Noli me tángere contains the main theme of DONA VICTORINA -- the CANCER in the country’s socio-cultural and political life had grown so malignant that it was best not to touch it. Did Rizal mean that the organism should be left to die as it eventually would, or did he mean that the cancer could be excised by total surgery? Both are extremely painful. Total surgery would have meant a clean cut that is tantamount to a revolution or the total change of the existing structural system.

The novel ends without giving the answer!

THE BLOG, VICTORINA IS SENDING A POWERFUL MESSAGE... just listen!

    FINALLY! I LOVE GORDON....

“A true whistleblower is one who immediately stops an illegal deal but they did not,” SENATOR GORDON said. Gordon said he would not exempt de Venecia just because he was the son of a former Speaker.
“You are not a victim,” the senator told de Venecia. “The victim is the Filipino people. You should not be contracting because your father was the Speaker and he was influential.”

  15. let Says:

MGA KURAKOT KAYO! I HATE YOU!

Gordon announced to the media that he would charge de Venecia, his father former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada Jr. for their alleged involvement in the aborted $330-million national broadband network project awarded to the Chinese firm ZTE Corp. Gordon said that the Constitution prohibits the immediate family of the Speaker and the Senate President from getting contracts with the government.

    Goooooo Gordon!

“That’s what I would have expected of a good son to a father,” Gordon said.

“Are you calling me a bad son, Mr. Chairman?’ asked the young De Venecia.

“No…I didn’t call you a bad son. Why are you so defensive?” Gordon retorted.

    “I’m not defensive,” said Joey.

    “You are,” Gordon answered.

    “No, I’m not,” said. Joey.

    REPLY:

hello dear. the credibility of the witnesses are not going to be the cornerstone of the ombudsman's position. that would be heresay.

they should operate according to law and thus have to create a proper and thorough investigation. follow the money as it is always about money.

it will be based on evidences whereby facts are separated from fiction.

as we all know both of the names you mentioned tend to cloud their testimonies maybe partly due to not wanting to incriminate themselves or others they want to protect or are just liars out for revenge.

murderers and rapists have been convicted based on other murderers evidences which are properly investigated to be strong enough to prosecute offenders. certainly murderers have no credibility But convictions have been achieved.

don't tell me that "no iota of evidence" can be found to incriminate certain individuals? otherwise their investigations are flawed and compromised.

personally I have given up on this administration. I have no faith nor courage to believe that these are good people. I have no faith in the ombudsman being independent. I am waiting for the next election na lang and we will see.

in terms of kickback laundering Erap is beginning to look like a kindergarten pupil compared to them.

Jose “Joey” De Venecia III has disclosed his intention to run for public office in the 2010 presidential elections. In an interview with dzBB’s Nimfa Ravelo, De Venecia said he is still undecided whether to run for senator or congressman in the 4th district of Pangasinan, which his father, former House Speaker Jose de Venecia, is set to vacate.

  27. the institutions where this people come from are not the problem eh, even how they were raised. I believe it's how they have wisdom and courage to know and fight for what they believe in.

But this government has really proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are the laws upon themselves.

Money is the main motive, wala na ang public service and knowing when to stand up for the wrongdoings of those in power.

    Sadly that's left to us!

plus, too much time between topics in the last 2 months. add all that, and you have a decline.

while the good topics are often ingnored, the next useless topic getting over 100 comments will result in some idiot declaring that the blog is alive again. how stupid is that?
