Meet the ex-convicts who are vying for the Presidency!

After convicted plunderer Joseph Estrada proclaimed his candidacy as President, another ex-convict proclaimed that he is running as well. Mark "MJ" Jimenez announced his candidature for president on Monday. He in fact offered himself as an alternative to what he described as "traditional" and "inexperienced" politicians in the coming 2010 elections.

According to the Inquirer, “Jimenez, founder of the Hulog ng Langit (Heaven-Sent) Foundation, said he would run on a platform of human rights, poverty alleviation and good governance. He is set to file his certificate of candidacy (CoC) on Tuesday, the deadline for the filing of the CoCs.

Ex-Convicts for PRESIDENT!

He said his candidacy for president was not a last-minute decision, but was made while he was serving his sentence for illegal campaign contributions while inside a US jail in 2003.

"There's always a time for everything. That's why you call it a calling. And I think this is the time. Walang huli habang buhay ka pa (There’s no such thing as ‘too late’ for as long as you are alive)," he said in explaining his decision to run.

Jimenez is known to have brokered many deals from the time of President Joseph Estrada’s administration. The last time he got in the news was due to a messy breakup with a long-time partner.”

And do you have any idea of how many Filipino people he helped so far? and you are calling him a crook... Maybe you should look at the other candidates first. After that, re-check what you just said. Think.

This is the funniest comments section of DV. There seem to be so many Jimenez supporters popping out of the woodwork to defend their "hero."
Funny thing is, they post their protracted comments under blogger names which do not even have blogs attached to them (these pro-Jimenez profiles were created in the past few days only)
And have you noticed that these comments are so drawn out and chock-full of references to Jimenez' accolades and achievements? They sound like press releases or planted comments and not the postings of DV blog readers.
Notice even the style and tone of all these pro-Jimenez posters - they look the same and have a similar feel - I wouldn't be surprised if all those aliases are just one person paid by the Jimenez camp to try and make his name come out "cleaner" on this blog.
    Just an observation.

  23. crook Says:

    by Ellen Tordesillas

IMELDA MARCOS doesn't live there anymore, but the new occupant of No. 6 Intsia St. in exclusive South Forbes is no less controversial. Indeed, businessman Mark Jimenez, now the proud owner of Imelda’s former home (daughter Imee had rented it for her, actually), is probably the most talked about among President Joseph Estrada’s friends, although he is one of the most elusive, and certainly the most mysterious. And the little that is known about Jimenez only add more to his mystique, even if some of what can be confirmed on him do not seem positive at all. For example: The name he now has wasn’t given to him by his parents, the U.S. government wants him extradited, and he doesn’t have any qualms about meeting visitors in his pajamas, even without the benefit of a bath.

The last alone could have made anyone else a pariah in this smell-conscious country. But Mark Jimenez is no ordinary person, according to the President himself. Estrada has proclaimed him a “corporate genius,” a compliment made all the more extraordinary by the fact that it was bestowed just nine days after Jimenez got indicted in April in a Florida court for tax evasion, conspiracy, fraud and illegal campaign contributions. For good measure, Estrada also made his friend his “adviser on Latin American affairs.” Three months later, pressure from Washington would prompt the President to ask Jimenez to resign. But Malacañang would be unable to accept the resignation, since it would turn out that Jimenez was never given the official appointment papers in the first place.

Malacañang, though, now likes to claim that Jimenez no longer goes to the Palace. Whether he is no longer tight with the President, however, remains very debatable, despite a favorite presidential son’s pronouncements in August that Jimenez is a “con artist” who “has deceived a lot of people,” and who was already out of the President’s circle of pals. After all, that declaration had been followed by a paternal tongue-lashing, and the son was forced to issue a retraction and apology soon after. Weeks later, Jimenez would be seen hobnobbing with the First Family as one of the selected guests at the exclusive despedida de soltera for Estrada’s daughter Jackie.

Jimenez himself isn’t about to say he is no longer a presidential friend. In fact, for a man described by many as a big talker, he doesn’t say much, at least to reporters, even those who are ushered in by his butler at his South Forbes mansion. Then again, that may be an inexact description of Jimenez during i’s two-session interview—for a total of seven hours—with him. It is true that the big, dark and balding Jimenez refused to respond to many questions. But he did talk, if only to insult the reporter for “asking those kinds of questions” or to say, “No comment.” Correction: He also did talk at length on a variety of topics, but he would wind up the mini monologues with a gruff “off the record.”

Fortunately, there are already some things that are on the record elsewhere, and these may help de-myth the man described as the one person who can effectively shake the present power totem at the Palace, who seems to be involved in almost every business mega-deal in town, and who is so lucky he managed to win P140 million at the Casino Pavilion in a span of just five days.

Mark Jimenez is one UGLY dude!

  25. Jimenez is a Crook Says:

Mark Jimenez took over Manila Times by FORCE. Mark Jimenez brokered the $750-million PLDT takeover and got
    a $50-million commission for
    it... Fucking tard!

  26. miken Says:

Based on the decision of the United States District Court Southern District of Florida (Case Number: 99-281-CR-SEITZ) Mark Jimenez was only guilty of
    (1) income tax evasion and,
    (2) illegal political contribution.

Basically he was imprisoned for giving too much money to the democratic party, a cause he believed in and supported. And he paid what he owed in taxes even though he was imprisoned. A crook does not do these things.

  27. unnamed Says:

Mark Jimenez brokered the PLDT takeover by Manny Pangilinan and got a commission for it. He was a private businessman at the time, and the takeover was legal business transaction. He did nothing wrong.
He worked on it as a broker, and i think there is nothing wrong of getting $50M for it.....you closed a deal and get commission for it, that’s the way it is!

  28. miken Says:

The Delgado’s should be grateful to Mark Jimenez and tell them (Ricky Sr. and Ricky Jr.) that helping them selling their interest in Islacom to the Ayala’s was a deal of a crook. They earned almost a $120 Million by pretending to the executives of Duetsche Telekom that they setup to visit Mark Jimenez at his residence when Former Pres. Estrada was Jimenez’s visitor. Ricky Delgado requested that he can have a picture with Estrada so he has a proof to show Duetsche Telekom executives that he’s a very very close and powerful friend of Estrada. So in two days he was able to close the transaction of the sale of Islacom Telecoms that he owns to Duetsche Telekom at a premium from $14 Million to $120 Million. If Ricky Delgado (Sr. and Jr.) is your friend please forward my information. I know Mark Jimenez true personal life.

I guess in lawless Philippines tax evasion and illegal campaign contributions are not considered to be crimes. In the USA, people go to jail for either crime. Also, he admitted to the US court that he funneled 5 million dollars out of the US by using a Uruguayan company.
